Good luck to Stuart Barden, Engineering Services Pre-Contract Manager, who is donning fake tan, sequins and glitter and taking to the stage for ‘Strictly Christmas 2017’ in Coventry this weekend, in aid of Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice.

Stepping out of his comfort zone, Stuart is one of 20 novice dancers, who have never danced before, paired with a trained dancer.  They will perform the Waltz and the Jive over the two date event (Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th Dec) in front of a judging panel!

Briggs & Forrester has been selected as a finalist in the Specialist Contractor of the Year (turnover over £25m) and MEP Specialist of the Year categories of the 2018 Construction News Specialists Awards, the only national awards that recognises the best specialist contractors from across the UK.

To decide the winners, all finalists will attend face-to-face judging by a panel of more than 60 judges, made up from the UK’s largest construction firms and the leaders of the country’s major projects. These include:

This year an incredible 1109 riders took part in the Cycle for Cynthia event held at Lamport Hall in Northamptonshire on Sunday 24th September in aid of Northampton’s Cynthia Spencer Hospice. The Briggs & Forrester Group had a team of 19 taking part and in total they raise an impressive £667!

Congratulations to Phil Homewood, Chis Crockford, Rory Sarjeant, Ewelina Kolakowska and Sarah Hamilton from our Birmingham office who completed the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run last month.

‘The Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run is now established as the second biggest half marathon in the UK, as the city comes alive with thousands of runners pounding the streets as they tick off 13.1 miles, encouraged by on course bands, entertainment and cheering crowds.’

A grand total of £1,553 (+ Gift aid) was raised for their chosen charity, the Rainbow Hospice.

As the colder months set in, follow these tips to save energy and money over the Winter period.

  • Open your curtains during the day and make the most of the heat from the sun.
  • Cover up drafty windows with plastic sheets and tape to keep the cold air out.
  • Schedule a service for your heating system to keep it running efficiently.
  • Reduce heat loss from your fireplace by keeping it covered when not in use.
  • Swap your old Christmas lights for energy saving LED’s.

This Saturday Kelly Moss, Technical Trainee for Briggs & Forrester Special Projects is taking to the stage for ‘Strictly Northampton 2017’, in aid of the Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

The show takes place on Saturday, 18th November at the Royal & Derngate Theatre in Northampton, and Kelly has been training hard in preparation.

The Briggs & Forrester Group has recently been made a corporate member of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, one of the most ancient of the livery companies of the City of London.

Duncan Benedetti, Corporate Liveryman for the Briggs & Forrester Group said, “It is an honour to be permitted into the Worshipful Company and it allows us to both support and benefit from the work it does in developing the next generation of plumbers and public health engineers.”

Congratulations to Curtis Castledine who won two awards last Thursday at the BESA National Awards Gala Dinner. Curtis was awarded Building Services Engineer Apprentice of the Year and also the Alfred Manly Management Award.

This follows Curtis’s success at the regional finals, where he won BESA London and South Apprentice of the Year.

Dan Martins wins Bronze medal at WorldSkills Final 2017

Congratulations to Briggs & Forrester apprentice Dan Martins who won a Bronze medal in Plumbing and Heating at the WorldSkills final in Abu Dhabi last night.

Dan said: “I’m over the moon I never expected to get a medal, it’s more than I could ever have imagined. Thank you for all the support from the start, I’ve had so many people come out to Abu Dhabi and support me, I can’t thank them enough”.

Dan and his family celebrating his success at WorldSkills 2017

A massive congratulations to Briggs and Forrester Plumbing Apprentice Daniel Martins, who has just completed his heating and plumbing piece at the WorldSkills 2017 competition in Abu Dhabi.

At 1pm GST, Dan’s WorldSkills competition drew to a close after four days of hard work.

Dan said: “I’m really pleased with my overall performance, it’s been a really tough four days I’m absolutely shattered now! I’m pleased that it’s finished and I’m happy with my work.”

There will be a closing ceremony tomorrow night, where the winners in each category will be announced.
