8th March 2018

Kelly began with Briggs & Forrester Special Projects 5 years ago as a purchasing administrator. After working in the position for two years, Kelly was offered a technical apprenticeship.

“As a purchasing administrator I would be inputting codes day to day and wondering how the parts that I was ordering worked within a building. As part of my training I was offered a 3 day placement at BSS and this is where my interests peaked and I knew that I wanted to pursue a career within the construction industry.”

National Apprenticeship Week - Trainee Energy Assessors

Sam Harrison began his apprenticeship with Briggs & Forrester Low Energy Consultancy (LEC) in 2014. He discovered LEC through a local careers office.

“I was keen to receive paid practical on-the-job training in combination with classroom-based study which has allowed me to acquire new skills whilst being rewarded financially.”

He always had a strong interest in construction, which was influenced by programs such as Grand Designs.

Curtis Castledine, Intermediate Design Engineer, began his career in Construction four years ago through the Briggs & Forrester Technical Apprenticeship programme, and qualified at the end of 2017.

Curtis said, “I’d always enjoyed and been interested in maths, physics and design technology. However apprenticeships were not something that was highlighted to me at school; students were encouraged to go to university.  The opportunity to be able to learn a trade whilst earning a living really appealed to me.

2017 was another positive year for the Briggs and Forrester Group’s health and safety record. Even with increases in project turnover, number of man hours worked and number of workers, the company has seen a year on year reduction in accidents and lost time injuries.

The Briggs & Forrester Group, and its workforce, completed in excess of 8 million man hours and achieved a 5% reduction in accidents across the group compared to 2016.

The Briggs and Forrester Group is anticipating significant growth during 2018 which will see the Groups revenues jump 24% to £225m whilst expanding its specialist operations across the UK.

“The Group has celebrated another successful year with a pre-tax profit of £5.7m (3.1%) on revenues of £182m generating a strong year-end balance sheet position and a cash balance of £32.5m. The Group was fortunate not to suffer significantly from Carillion’s demise and moves forward positively without any material financial impact to the business,” says Group CEO, Paul Burton.

An energy or sustainability statement is a report document that confirms a development will meet and how it will meet any regional set energy targets or sustainability policies.  The document is used to support planning applications as evidence and to aid a successful approval.  The documents are now more commonly a mandatory requirement rather than an optional requirement.

This month across the Briggs & Forrester Group, we have been collecting for local charities. Each region was set with the challenge of donating much needed food and supplies to a local food bank, homeless centre or children’s hospice in time for Christmas.

At our Northampton head office, we chose to support the Hope Centre who work to relieve poverty and tackle the causes of homelessness in Northampton, by giving people a hand up.

The Briggs & Forrester Bristol office has relocated to accommodate a growing team in the South West.

Since opening in 2014, Briggs & Forrester has established itself within the region and secured multiple high profile projects such as Dyson D9, Forbury Place and Dowty Propellers.

Fit-out works were carried our prior to the move to create a modern and dynamic space which provides a comfortable and conducive working environment for the team. The office is also situated in a more accessible location just off the M5 on the north side of the city.

The Briggs & Forrester team at Newfoundland have recently held a Christmas raffle in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. They set themselves a challenge with an ambitious target, to raise £1500 in two weeks.

Steve Perry, Construction Manager said “I'm glad to say with the support of all the sub-contractors and suppliers who donated prizes and bought tickets, we managed to smash through our initial £1500 target and raised £2500!.”

A fantastic effort from all the team for a very worthwhile cause.

Good luck to Stuart Barden, Engineering Services Pre-Contract Manager, who is donning fake tan, sequins and glitter and taking to the stage for ‘Strictly Christmas 2017’ in Coventry this weekend, in aid of Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice.

Stepping out of his comfort zone, Stuart is one of 20 novice dancers, who have never danced before, paired with a trained dancer.  They will perform the Waltz and the Jive over the two date event (Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th Dec) in front of a judging panel!
